Previous to attending the workshop I knew nothing about Mandalas and thought it would make an interesting diversion to my normal art practice of landscape painting.
On arriving at the venue, I was invited into the Studio which was to be our working area for the day. The area was easily large enough for the assembled students with airy high ceilings, air-con and a pleasant arty atmosphere. A range of beverages were available in the kitchen area along with a few treats. We provided our own lunches which we ate outside at a table with sunshade.
The lessons were well delivered by Krishna and Naomi in tandem along with a booklet provided so we could follow much of the talk. After a thorough introduction we got down to the design of the Mandala. Much thought had been put into the construction of the templates for drawing the circles and dividing the circles, so this proved to be straightforward.
Then we were down the fun bit. Our names and birthdate provided the code for our Mandala. Prior to each circle being commenced there was a helpful discussion on how to interpret our codes and their deeper meaning. I learnt quite a bit from this aspect of the course. Then we proceeded to put paint to canvas in the form of acrylic pens. This was a first for me and I found them accurate for detail and easy to use.
As this was my first contact with Mandalas, I seemed to take a different path to other students but stuck with my instinct, avoiding making it pretty by using random colour as filling. At the conclusion each student did a quick appraisal of their Mandala and then we concluded with a short meditation session.
When I left, I thought my Mandala incomplete. However, when viewed from a distance the following morning this was not the case. I could find meaning and direction in the colours and symbols that represent the loves and desires my life. All in all, I had a great day and felt like a kid again colouring in with the pens. The course was well planned and professionally delivered. For anyone interested in cosmic forces and meditation this course in thoroughly recommended. I am not of that bent but think I will use the information provided as a life planning tool, setting goals based on my loves and desires and setting pathways to achieve them.
